Nutrien, is the world’s largest provider of crop inputs and services, produces potash, nitrogen, and phosphate products for agricultural, industrial and feed customers world-wide. With operations and business interests in five continents, Nutrien is an international enterprise and services over 500,000 growers. Initially, the company had three different training programs, but this quickly proved insufficient. To meet its workforce needs, Nutrien increased investment in its workers; it now has close to 50 training programs, including registered apprenticeship. Graduates of the apprenticeship program become certified master craftsmen upon completion. One apprentice, Danielle Street, described receiving her certification: “personally to me, it’s another credential like getting an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.” The apprentices are mentored and trained by experienced master craftsmen for 6-12 months before they are bestowed certification.
