Greensboro, NC — The Nehemiah Community Empowerment Center recently announced a new partnership with Steve Wozniak and the Woz ED STEM Career Pathways Curriculum offered through its education solution partner - PowerupEDU. The curriculum readily prepares our younger generation with the 21st century skills needed to gain employment in the various STEM & robotic careers. The Nehemiah Center will be Guilford County’s FIRST WOZ Career Pathway Community Center.

Steve Wozniak emphasizes the need to produce scientists and engineers. Woz ED Community Outreach programs are made possible by our believers – people who understand that opportunity to learn leads to opportunities. Movers and shakers proving that economic development happens when we embrace K-Employment, not just K-12. The Nehemiah Center’s mission is to empower, expose and equip individuals in underserved communities for the ever-changing and evolving tech and robotic fields. Their goal is to decrease the educational inequality that exist in society today in these fields. Thereby, creating career awareness, certification training and apprenticeship opportunities which will substantially change the economic fabric in the communities they serve. These two entities give hope by shrinking the digital divide and addressing the skills gap.

For the past 15 years, the Nehemiah Center has provided STEM & Robotic exploration to at-risk youth and teens. Creating career awareness and now creating jobs. The Nehemiah Center is now a Registered Apprenticeship Employer-Partner with ApprenticeshipNC and a CompTIA Academy Partner. Their training program is unique in that they provide I.T. certification coupled with hands-on real-world work experience to Guilford County residents through their partnership with NCWorks & GuilfordWorks so that apprentices can EARN while they LEARN. Enabling participants to attain the critical skill set and required hands-on experience that employers are looking for. They are truly empowering the whole family unit – “Rebuilding & Restoring Communities & Families.”

This summer during their STEM/Robotic Exploration Summer camp, the Nehemiah Center will be offering Cybersecurity, 3-D printing, Robotic Engineering, Animation, Coding for youth ages 6-15. And yes, Drone Flight School for ages 14-17 using WOZ Ed curriculum. Teens will be able to build a drone and attain a commercial drone license in the fall once they complete the pre-requisite this summer. With local, state and federal funding from JCPC & GCC, most households may qualify for their child to attend their camp FREE OF CHARGE. And get ready parents! This upcoming fall, Nehemiah will be offering commercial drone course for adults as well.
